Sahar Aslam's Early Cricket Journey
Sahar Aslam was born in Ireland. She started playing cricket for Scotland when she was quite young. In 2002, she joined the national under-21 team. They went on a tour to England and played in the European Under-21 Championship.
Making Her Senior Debut
Sahar made her first appearance for the senior Scottish team in 2003. She was 20 years old at the time. She played in three of Scotland's five games at the IWCC Trophy, which took place in the Netherlands. This tournament was a qualifier for the 2005 World Cup.
What is an ODI?
All the matches at the IWCC Trophy were called "ODI" games. ODI stands for One Day International. These are big matches where teams play a set number of overs in one day. Playing in these games meant Sahar became one of the few women to represent Scotland at this high level.
Her Performance in Early Matches
Sahar played against teams like Pakistan, the West Indies, and Ireland. She bowled three overs but didn't take any wickets. She also didn't score any runs in her three turns at bat.
Later International Appearances
Sahar's next big international event was the 2007 European Championship. This tournament was also held in the Netherlands.
Playing in the World Cup Qualifier
Even though her performance wasn't great at the European Championship, Sahar was chosen for the Scottish team again. She joined the squad for the 2008 World Cup Qualifier in South Africa. Here, she played in all five of her team's matches.
Sahar's Best Bowling Moment
Her best game in the qualifier was against Papua New Guinea. She took 2 wickets for just 19 runs from ten overs. This was during a semi-final game to decide who would finish in fifth place.
Playing in English Competitions
Later in 2008, Sahar was part of Scotland's team for the Women's County Championship. This is a domestic cricket competition played in England. Scotland was taking part for the second time.
Retirement from Cricket
Sahar continued to be a regular player for the Scottish team. She played until she retired in 2011, when she was 28 years old. Her final season included matches in the County Championship, the European Championship, and the European Twenty20 Championship. When she wasn't playing for Scotland, Sahar played her club cricket for Aberdeenshire.
