St. Croix or Saint Croix is a small, unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. It's located in Oil Township, Perry County, in the state of Indiana, United States.
You can find St. Croix on the western edge of the Hoosier National Forest. It's close to where three main roads meet: State Road 62, Interstate 64, and State Road 37. The community is northeast of Tell City, which is the main town in Perry County. Some important places in St. Croix include the Holy Cross Church, its cemetery, and the Church Hall. You can also find the Etienne Saw Mill and Bear Hollow Mulch here. Even though St. Croix is not an official town, it used to have its own post office with the ZIP code 47576.
History of St. Croix
St. Croix was first settled in 1849 by a group of Catholic families. They came together to form a new community. The name "St. Croix" means "Holy Cross."
The community's main church, Holy Cross Church, was started in 1855. This church became a very important part of the community's life. A post office was opened in St. Croix in 1880. This helped people send and receive mail easily. However, the post office has since closed down.
