The Saint Croix Falls Dam, also known as the St. Croix Falls Dam, is a large hydroelectric dam located in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin. It is the only dam on the beautiful St. Croix River, which flows between Wisconsin and Minnesota. This important dam is managed by a company called Xcel Energy.

Long ago, another dam called the Nevers Dam was located about 11 miles upstream on the St. Croix River. Loggers used the Nevers Dam to help move logs down the river. However, a big flood in 1954 badly damaged it, and the company that owned it tore it down the next year.

History of the St. Croix Falls Dam

The St. Croix Falls Dam started working in 1905. This means it has been producing electricity for over 100 years! In April 2001, the dam experienced record flows of water. This means a huge amount of water passed through it during that month.
