The Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church and Rectory is a special historic church in Rock Springs, Wyoming. It is also known as the North Side Church. This Roman Catholic church was built by immigrants from Slavic countries. They wanted a church that felt more like their own traditions.

In 1925, they built this church to replace an older, temporary one from 1911. It stands just two blocks from another church, Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Daniel Spani was the architect who designed the church. F.H. Cowell, a builder from Denver, constructed it. They even reused and expanded the basement from the older church building.

What Does the Church Look Like?

The church mainly uses the Romanesque Revival style of architecture. It is built with bricks made in Ogden, Utah. The most striking part of the church is its tall spire. This spire is about 125 feet (38 meters) high and sits above the main entrance.

The main part of the church, called the sanctuary, is shaped like a rectangle. It measures about 60 feet (18 meters) long and 37.75 feet (11.5 meters) wide. Inside, you can see beautiful stained-glass windows with rounded arches. The back part of the church, called the apse, has two smaller altars in special spaces. Above the entrance, there is a loft for the choir and the organ. The tall spire also holds a belfry with four bells.

The Rectory: A Home for the Priests

The rectory is the house where the priests live. This building is actually older than the church itself. It was built in 1920 and was also designed by Daniel Spani. The rectory is a red brick house built in the bungalow style. It used to have a front porch, but that area was later enclosed to make the house bigger. Inside, it has typical bungalow features like built-in shelves and cabinets.

Becoming a Historic Landmark

Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church became a very important historic place. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 22, 2015. This list includes buildings, sites, and objects that are important in American history.
