Sajal Aly (born January 17, 1994) is a famous Pakistani actress and model. She is well-known for her work in television shows and movies. Sajal is one of the highest-paid actresses in Pakistan. She has won many awards, including five Hum Awards and a Lux Style Award. The government of Pakistan also honored her with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, which is a special award for her achievements.
Sajal started her acting journey in 2009 with a TV show called Nadaaniyaan. She then got a main role in the soap opera Mehmoodabad Ki Malkain in 2011. She became very popular after her role in the thriller Nanhi (2013). This role earned her a nomination for the Lux Style Award for Best TV Actress. People also loved her performances in family dramas like Sannata (2013-14) and Khuda Dekh Raha Hai (2015).
Sajal Aly has played many different kinds of characters. Some of her most famous roles include Dr. Zubiya Asfandyar in Yaqeen Ka Safar (2017) and Sassi in O Rangreza (2017–18). She also played Momina Sultan in Alif (2019), Rabia Safeer in Sinf-e-Aahan (2021), and Aaliya Agha in Kuch Ankahi (2023). Her acting in these shows was highly praised. Early Life and Family
Sajal Aly was born in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. She has a sister named Saboor Aly, who is also an actress. She also has a brother. In 2017, Sajal's mother, Rahat, passed away from cancer.
Sajal married her fellow actor, Ahad Raza Mir, in March 2020. They got engaged in June 2019 and shared the news on Instagram. The wedding took place in Abu Dhabi with close family and friends. The couple later divorced in March 2022.
Sajal's Acting Career
First Steps in Acting (2009–2012)
Sajal Aly first appeared on TV in a show called Nadaaniyaan in 2009. After that, she got main roles in several soap operas. These included Mehmoodabad Ki Malkain and Ahmed Habib Ki Betiyan. She also had supporting roles in shows like Mastana Mahi and Meray Qatil Meray Dildar. For Meray Qatil Meray Dildar, she was nominated for a Hum Award for Best Supporting Actress.
In 2012, Sajal played the main character in Chandni. She also received praise for her role as a young, outspoken college student in Mohabbat Jaye Bhar Mein. Later, she played Esha in Meri Ladli and Zoya, a brave cancer patient, in Sitamgar. She also appeared in Mere Khuwabon Ka Diya and Quddusi Sahab Ki Bewah.
Becoming a Star (2013–2016)
In 2013, Sajal Aly was highly praised for her role as an innocent teenager in Nanhi. This show was very popular and earned her nominations for Best TV Actress at the Lux Style Award for Best TV Actress - Satellite and Pakistan Media Awards. Her next big role was in Gohar-e-Nayab, where she played Gori, an orphaned girl with a strong spirit. This role also earned her a nomination for the Pakistan Media Award for Best TV Actress.
Sajal's performance in Behadd as a troubled child was also well-received by critics. In the same year, she starred in Aasmanon Pay Likha, which became one of the most-watched TV shows in Pakistan that year. Sajal then played a character with split personality disorder in Sannata. Her acting in this show earned her good reviews and another nomination for the Lux Style Award for Best TV Actress.
In 2015, Sajal played a quiet girl in Khuda Dekh Raha Hai, which earned her another Lux Style Award nomination. She then appeared in Kis Se Kahoon as a college student who bravely faces challenges. Her role as a young caretaker in Tum Mere Kya Ho was also noted. Sajal received more praise for her role as a women's rights activist in the romance Gul e Rana. For this role, she won her first Hum Award for Best Actress and was nominated for a Best Actress award at the 15th Lux Style Awards.
Later Career and New Projects (2017–Present)
In 2017, Sajal Aly starred as a strong medical student in Yaqeen Ka Safar. Her performance in this show is considered one of her best. She won the Hum Award for Best Actress and Hum Award for Best Actress Popular for this role. In the same year, she made her debut in Bollywood (the Indian film industry) in the movie Mom, starring opposite Sridevi. Critics praised her acting in the film.
In 2018, Sajal also started singing! She sang the theme song for O Rangreza, a show where she played Sassi, a lively and rebellious character. She received praise for her acting in this show too. Later, she played Chammi in the TV show Aangan. Her performance was highly praised, with one reviewer saying she "stole the limelight." She received two nominations for Best TV Actress at the 19th Lux Style Awards.
In 2019, Sajal was praised for her role as Momina Sultan, a struggling actress, in the spiritual romance show Alif. This role earned her another nomination for Best TV Actress.
In 2021, she played a brave journalist in the first episodes of Ishq E Laa. The same year, she returned to movies in Khel Khel Mein. She won the Best Film Actress award for her role in this movie at the 21st Lux Style Awards.
In 2022, Sajal played a female cadet in the Pakistan Military Academy in the show Sinf-e-Aahan. In 2023, she appeared as a hardworking real estate agent in Kuch Ankahi. The same year, she made her English-language film debut in the British romantic comedy What's Love Got to Do with It?. She had a short but important role in the film, which was produced by Jemima Khan.
Sajal Aly's new web series, The Pink Shirt, will be released soon on Zee5. She stars opposite Wahaj Ali in this project.
