Saline, Calvados facts for kids
Saline was a special kind of local area in France called a commune. It didn't exist for very long. This area was located in the Normandy region, specifically in the Calvados department, which is in the northwest part of France.
What Was Saline?
Saline was created on January 1, 2017. It was formed by combining two older communes: Troarn and Sannerville. Troarn was chosen as the main town, also known as the "seat," for this new combined area.
Why Was Saline Created?
Sometimes, smaller towns or communes decide to join together. This is called a merger. They might do this to work better together or to share resources more easily. Saline was an example of such a merger, bringing Troarn and Sannerville under one local government.
Why Did Saline Stop Existing?
Even though Saline was created, it didn't last. An "administrative court" decided that the merger should be undone. This means the court ruled that the two communes should go back to being separate. So, on December 31, 2019, the communes of Troarn and Sannerville became independent again, just like they were before Saline was formed.
