Salitpa is a small, unincorporated community in Clarke County, Alabama. An unincorporated community is a place where people live, but it does not have its own local government. It has also been known by the name River Hill.
History of Salitpa
A post office in Salitpa has been open since 1855. This means people have been sending and receiving mail there for a very long time! The community got its name from a nearby stream called Satilpa Creek. However, there was a small mistake when they applied for the post office. Someone accidentally wrote an "L" instead of a "T" when writing the name. Because of this, the name became "Salitpa" instead of "Satilpa."
A Local Baseball Star
Salitpa was once the home of a famous baseball player named Ray Prim. He was a star in minor league baseball. Ray Prim played for the Los Angeles Angels in the Pacific Coast League. He played with them from 1936 to 1942, and again in 1944 and 1947.
