This district includes many old buildings and sites. They are all connected to the historic Old Salt Sulphur Springs Resort. Some of the important buildings are made from local limestone. This makes them very unique in the area.

The Old Salt Resort

The Old Salt Sulphur Springs Resort was a popular place long ago. People visited to "take the waters" from the natural springs. They believed the spring water had health benefits. The resort was a place for relaxation and social gatherings.

The Old Stone Hotel

This was one of the main buildings at the resort. It provided lodging for visitors.

The Episcopal Chapel

This beautiful chapel was a place of worship for guests. It is a well-preserved stone building.

The Stone Store Building

Built around 1820, this building served as a store. Visitors could buy supplies and goods here.

The Stone Bath House

Also built around 1820, this was where guests could bathe in the spring waters.

The Stone Spring House

Around 1820, this building was constructed over one of the springs. It protected the spring and made it easy for people to access the water.

The Famous Springs

The resort was named for its special springs.

  • The Sweet Sulphur Springs Site was found in 1802.
  • The Salt Sulphur Spring was discovered in 1805.
  • The Iodine Spring was found later, in 1838.

These springs were the main reason people traveled to Old Salt.
