Early Life and School
Sam McKenzie was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. After finishing high school at Austin-East High School, he went to college. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Fisk University. Later, he received a Master of Science degree in physics from the University of Memphis.
His Career Before Politics
Before becoming a politician, Sam McKenzie worked as a scientist. He worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. There, he helped manage the maintenance of the Spallation Neutron Source. This is a special facility used for scientific research.
Becoming a Politician
Sam McKenzie was elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives on November 3, 2020. He took over the position from another Democrat, Rick Staples. In this role, he helps make laws for the state of Tennessee.
His Family Life
Sam McKenzie has two older twin brothers. Their names are Raleigh McKenzie and Reggie McKenzie. Both of his brothers used to play professional football in the NFL.
