About Sam Tambimuttu
Sam Tambimuttu was born in 1932. He was related to E. R. Tambimuttu, who was also a politician in the State Council of Ceylon. This council was an important governing body in Sri Lanka before it became fully independent.
Tambimuttu married Kala, and they had a son named Arun. His wife, Kala, was the daughter of Senator M. Manickam, another well-known public figure. Sam Tambimuttu was a Methodist, which is a Christian faith.
His Work and Public Service
Sam Tambimuttu was a lawyer, known as a proctor, and he practiced law in Batticaloa. This means he helped people with legal issues in his community.
He was also the chairman of the Batticaloa Citizen's Committee. In this role, he worked to help young people who had been arrested. He would step in to support them and make sure they were treated fairly.
Tambimuttu was a long-time member of the Tamil United Liberation Front, a political party. Later, he joined the Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front. In 1989, he ran in the 1989 Sri Lankan parliamentary election for the Batticaloa Electoral District. He won the election and became a Member of Parliament in Sri Lanka's Parliament.
His Passing
Sadly, Sam Tambimuttu died on May 7, 1990, in Colombo, Sri Lanka. His wife, Kala, also passed away a few days later, on May 16, from injuries she received at the same time.
