Amanda Louise Marchant and Samantha Joanne Marchant (born 28 June 1988) are identical twin sisters. They are best known as Samanda. They became famous in 2007 on the TV show Big Brother. They finished in second place on the show.
After Big Brother, they released their first song. It was a cover of Aqua's popular song "Barbie Girl". It came out on October 8, 2007. The song reached number 26 on the UK Singles Chart.
Their second song was called "Honey Love". It was released on August 22, 2008. This song was a cover of Donny Osmond's hit "Puppy Love". It was also part of a promotion with Sugar Puffs cereal. The Honey Monster, who is the cereal's mascot, even appeared in their music video.
As of 2019, both sisters are married. Each sister has one daughter, born a few months apart.
Big Brother Journey
Amanda and Sam were runners-up in the eighth series of Big Brother in the UK. Many people thought they would win the show. The media gave them the nickname "Samanda" while they were on the show.
Before they became famous, the twins were students. They studied social care at Manchester Metropolitan University. While they were still at university, they helped advertise a new travel card. This card offered half-price travel for students.
Samanda held a record for a long time. They spent 94 days inside the Big Brother house. This was the longest time any housemate had stayed in the UK show. Later, Nikki Grahame broke this record. She spent 157 days in the house. Amanda and Sam are also the only housemates to reach the final without ever being nominated by other housemates.
Their Career After TV
Amanda and Sam have their own line of beauty products. This includes skincare and fragrances. The line is called "Samanda by Young and Pure". It is made for girls aged 10 to 22. It was launched on November 5, 2007. In January 2008, they signed a two-year deal with Young and Pure. This deal was worth a lot of money.
In 2008, the sisters released a fitness DVD. It was called Samanda - The Twins: Dance Workout. They also worked with Hello Kitty. They became the faces of Hello Kitty's social networking website. They also wrote blogs for the site.
On the TV show GMTV, Sam and Amanda said they had earned over £1,000,000 together. They have released two music singles since leaving Big Brother. These were "Barbie Girl" and "Honey Love".
The twins were special guest judges at a beauty pageant. It was called the Miss and Miss Teen Galaxy UK pageant. This event took place in Manchester on March 29, 2009. They also held a question and answer session for their fans on April 27, 2009. Some of the money from this event went to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
