Samantha Martel Johnson (born June 10, 1991) is an American soccer player. She is known for playing as a defender. Samantha has played for several teams, including the Chicago Red Stars and Utah Royals FC in the National Women's Soccer League. She also played for Australian teams like Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC, and Melbourne City in the W-League.

Samantha Johnson's College Soccer Journey
Playing for the USC Trojans
Samantha Johnson went to the University of Southern California from 2009 to 2012. While there, she played as a forward for the USC Trojans soccer team.
In her first year, Samantha played in 20 games and started 19 of them. She was the second-highest scorer on her team with four goals. Because of her great performance, she was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team.
In 2010, Samantha played in all 22 games for the Trojans. The next year, in 2011, she started all 20 games during her junior year. She even scored the fastest goal in her team's history, just 14 seconds into a match! In her final game as a senior, Samantha scored the winning goal against their rivals, the UCLA Bruins.

Time with Chicago Red Stars (2014–2018)
In March 2014, Samantha Johnson joined the Chicago Red Stars team in the National Women's Soccer League. She joined them after trying out for the team. Samantha made it onto the official team roster for 2014. She played in twelve games and helped her team score one goal. Her first season ended early when she got a facial injury in a game in June.
In 2015, Samantha played in 14 games for the Red Stars. That year, Chicago made it to the play-offs for the first time. Samantha came into their semi-final game as a substitute.
Samantha started 20 games for Chicago in 2016. The Red Stars were knocked out of the semi-finals for the second year in a row.
In 2017, she was a starting player in the center of the defense. She played in 22 games and was even named to the team of the month in June 2017.
In June 2018, Samantha was traded to the Utah Royals FC as part of a deal involving three teams.
Loan to Sydney FC
In September 2014, Samantha Johnson was loaned to Sydney FC. This team plays in the W-League in Australia.
Loan to Melbourne Victory
In October 2016, Samantha was loaned to Melbourne Victory for the 2016–17 W-League season.
Samantha returned to play for Melbourne Victory for the 2018–19 W-League season. She played in 12 matches for the team. Melbourne Victory won the Premiership that year, meaning they were the top team during the regular season.
Playing for Utah Royals FC (2018–2019)
After joining the Utah Royals FC in the middle of the 2018 season, Samantha played her first game for them on June 30. She started the game and played for the full 90 minutes. Samantha played in six games for the Royals in 2018.
In 2019, Samantha played in eight games for the Royals. She announced that she was retiring from professional soccer on June 28, 2019.
Return to the Game with Melbourne City (2020–2021)
In November 2020, Samantha Johnson decided to return to playing soccer. She signed with the Australian W-League club Melbourne City.
Time with Soyaux (2021)
In July 2021, Samantha joined the French club Soyaux. She left the club in October 2021.

Samantha Johnson played for the United States national teams at different age levels. She played for the U-15, U-16, U-17, and U-18 teams.
In 2008, Samantha was part of the United States U-17 roster for the 2008 CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship. The U.S. team won this championship for the first time ever. Samantha was also on the team for the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. In that tournament, the United States team finished second after losing in extra time to North Korea in the final game.
