Sami Sirviö's Early Life and Music Career
Sami Sirviö helped start the band Kent in 1990. He formed the band with singer Joakim Berg, bassist Martin Sköld, drummer Markus Mustonen, and keyboard player Thomas Bergqvist.
The band had a few different names at first. They were called Jones & Giftet, then Havsänglar, before finally becoming Kent. During this time, Thomas Bergqvist left the band. Martin Roos joined as the new keyboard player.
Kent's First Album and New Members
After Kent released their first album, Martin Roos decided to leave the band. He wanted to work at a music company called BMG. Soon after, Harri Mänty joined Kent as a new guitarist.
The band, with Sami, Joakim, Martin Sköld, Markus, and Harri, made many successful albums. These albums were loved by critics and sold very well.
Changes in Kent's Lineup
In 2006, Harri Mänty, the rhythm guitarist, left the band. Instead of finding a new permanent member, Sami Sirviö and Joakim Berg played all the guitar parts for their 2007 album, Tillbaka till samtiden.
For their live shows, Kent often had Max Brandt play guitar with them. He was not an official member but helped them on stage.
Besides his work with Kent, Sami Sirviö also played on Lisa Miskovsky's 2006 album, Changes. He has also helped produce music for other artists in Sweden and Finland.
Sami's Personal Life
In 2005, Sami Sirviö married his girlfriend, Jennie Persson. They had been together for six years. Their wedding took place at the Maria Magdalena Church in Stockholm.
What Guitars and Gear Does Sami Use?
Sami Sirviö often used Gibson Les Paul guitars. He would change the original pickups (the parts that turn string vibrations into sound) to P-94 single coil pickups. This was for both recording music and playing live shows.
However, for the album Tillbaka till samtiden, Sami mainly used a 1967 Fender Custom Telecaster guitar.
Sometimes, Sami uses a special tool called an e-bow on his guitar. This tool makes the strings vibrate without him needing to pluck or strum them. He often uses it with a delay pedal, which creates an echo effect.
Amplifiers and Cabinets
For recording, Sami's main amplifier was a 1963 Vox AC30. He also used a 1954 Fender Concert and a 1964 Hiwatt Custom 100 amplifier.
When playing live, Sami uses a newer Hiwatt amplifier. This amplifier is connected to a 4x12 cabinet, which holds four large speakers.
