Sami Sirviö was born on May 28, 1970. He is a talented musician from Sweden with Finnish roots. Sami is most famous for being the lead guitarist of the Swedish rock band Kent. The band is no longer together, but Sami played a huge role in their music.

Sami's Musical Journey

Forming the Band Kent

Sami Sirviö helped start the band Kent in 1990. He formed the group with singer Joakim Berg, bassist Martin Sköld, and drummer Markus Mustonen. At first, they had a different keyboard player, Thomas Bergqvist. The band changed its name a few times. They were first called Jones & Giftet, then Havsänglar, and finally Kent.

Changes in the Band

Over the years, some members of Kent changed. Thomas Bergqvist left, and Martin Roos joined for a while. After Kent released their first album, Martin Roos left to work at a music company. Then, Harri Mänty joined as a new guitarist. This group of five musicians made many successful albums together.

In 2006, Harri Mänty left the band. Instead of finding a new permanent guitarist, Sami Sirviö and Joakim Berg recorded the guitar parts for their 2007 album, Tillbaka till samtiden. For live shows, they had a musician named Max Brandt play with them.

Beyond Kent

Besides his work with Kent, Sami Sirviö has also played on other artists' albums. For example, he played on Lisa Miskovsky's album Changes in 2006. Sami has also helped produce, or create, many records for other Swedish and Finnish musicians.

Personal Life

In 2005, Sami Sirviö married his girlfriend, Jennie Persson. They had been together for six years before getting married at the Maria Magdalena Church in Stockholm.

Musical Instruments and Gear

Guitars and Pickups

For a long time, Sami Sirviö often used Gibson Les Paul guitars. He changed the original pickups on these guitars to P-94 single coil pickups. Pickups are like microphones for guitars; they turn the string vibrations into electrical signals. These signals then go to an amplifier to make sound.

However, when recording the album Tillbaka till samtiden, Sami mainly used a 1967 Fender Custom Telecaster guitar. Sometimes, Sami uses a special tool called an e-bow on his guitar. An e-bow makes the guitar strings vibrate without plucking or strumming them, creating a long, sustained sound. He often uses it with a delay pedal, which repeats the sound like an echo.

Amplifiers

For recording, Sami's main amplifier was a 1963 Vox AC30. An amplifier makes the guitar's sound louder. He also used a 1954 Fender Concert and a 1964 Hiwatt Custom 100 amplifier. For live concerts, Sami uses a newer Hiwatt amplifier with a large speaker cabinet. This cabinet has four 12-inch speakers to make the sound powerful for big stages.
