Samia al-Amoudi is a brave doctor from Saudi Arabia. She is an expert in women's health, specifically in obstetrics (caring for pregnant women) and gynecology (caring for women's reproductive health). Dr. Samia is also a professor and a strong voice for health awareness. She is famous for teaching people about breast cancer, especially after she herself was diagnosed with it. She was the first woman from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to join the board of the Union for International Cancer Control, which is a big global group fighting cancer.

Early Life and Medical Journey

In 1981, Dr. Al-Amoudi was among the first doctors to graduate from the medical college at King Abdulaziz University. This was a big achievement for her.

Fighting Cancer and Helping Others

In April 2006, Dr. Al-Amoudi found out she had breast cancer. She then went through chemotherapy treatment. She became the first Saudi woman to openly write about her experience with the disease. She shared her story in a series of articles in a weekly newspaper column. She also appeared on a daily TV show to talk about it. Her goal was to help other women and break the silence around breast cancer.

Awards and Important Recognition

In March 2007, Dr. Al-Amoudi received a special award called the International Women of Courage Award. This award was given to her by Condoleezza Rice from the United States Department of State. It recognized her bravery and important work.

In 2010, she was listed as fifth on the Power 100 list. This list is made by Arabian Business and names the world's most influential Arabs. Later, Arabian Business also ranked her among the "100 Most Powerful Arab Women" in healthcare and science. She was 37th in 2015 and 66th in 2016.

Leading the Fight Against Cancer

Dr. Al-Amoudi finished her cancer treatment in 2012. Since then, she has been the head of the Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al-Amoudi Center of Excellence in breast cancer. She also holds a scientific chair for breast cancer at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She is also an ambassador for GE Healthcare's #GetFit campaign, encouraging healthy living.

Dr. Al-Amoudi is the CEO of the Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al-Amoudi Center of Excellence in Breast Cancer. She is also a scientific chair for breast cancer and a member of the BHGI steering committee. She works as an associate professor and a consultant obstetrician gynecologist at King Abdulaziz University.

Her Book

Dr. Al-Amoudi wrote a book titled Breast Cancer, Break the Silence in 2007. This book helped many people understand more about breast cancer.
