Sammy Adjei's Football Journey
Starting His Club Career
Sammy Adjei started his football journey with Hearts of Oak, a club in Accra, Ghana. He played there for many years. In 2005, he moved to Club Africain.
Returning to Hearts of Oak
He later returned to Hearts of Oak in 2008 for another time with his old club. He signed a one-year contract. He hoped this would help him get back into Ghana's national team. In 2009, he tried out for a South African club called Maritzburg United.
Playing for His Country: Ghana
Early International Career
Sammy Adjei was Ghana's main goalkeeper for the national team until 2006. That's when another great goalkeeper, Richard Kingson, became more well-known.
World Cup and African Cup
Adjei was part of Ghana's team for the 2006 African Cup of Nations in Egypt. He also joined the squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. During the World Cup, he played in one match as a substitute. This happened when the first-choice goalkeeper, Richard Kingson, had to leave the game due to an injury.
Later International Matches
On March 24, 2007, Adjei played for Ghana against Austria in a friendly match. He got injured during the first half and had to go to the hospital. Kingson came on to replace him. Adjei was called up again for the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations as the second-choice goalkeeper. After this tournament, he decided to stop playing for the national team. However, he was later called back for a qualifying match against Congo.
