Samolus repens is a type of plant often called creeping brookweed or creeping bushweed. It is a kind of water pimpernel. You can find it growing naturally in places like Australia, New Zealand, nearby Pacific islands, and parts of South America, especially along the coasts.
This plant has small flowers that are usually white. Sometimes, they can be a light pink color. These flowers typically bloom from September through to March or April.
About Its Name
Scientists give every plant and animal a special two-part name. This helps everyone around the world know exactly which living thing they are talking about.
The plant Samolus repens was first described by a scientist named Georg Forster in 1776. He gave it the name Sheffieldia repens. Later, in 1805, another scientist, Christiaan Hendrik Persoon, moved it into the group of plants called Samolus. This is why its full scientific name today is Samolus repens.
