The Samsung Galaxy Note series was a special line of high-end Android smartphones made by Samsung Electronics. These phones were known for their large screens and a special pen called a stylus. This pen let you write notes, draw, and do many other things directly on the screen.
The Galaxy Note phones were some of the first popular "phablets." A phablet is a device that's bigger than a regular phone but smaller than a tablet. It tries to combine the best parts of both. Samsung sold over 50 million Galaxy Note devices between 2011 and 2013.
Samsung stopped making new Galaxy Note phones in 2021. Instead, they decided to add the popular pen features to other Samsung Galaxy devices, like their foldable phones and some of the Galaxy S series.

Galaxy Note Phones
Original Galaxy Note
Samsung first showed off the original Galaxy Note in 2011. It had a 5.3-inch screen, which was very big for a phone back then! Some people wondered if it was too big.
But the Note became very popular. People liked its stylus pen and its fast processor. The large screen was also great for watching videos and using apps. It had an 8-megapixel camera that could record Full HD videos. By August 2012, Samsung had sold 10 million of these phones worldwide.
Galaxy Note 2
In 2012, Samsung released the Galaxy Note II. This new model had a bigger 5.5-inch screen and a faster processor. The stylus pen was also improved. It could show "Air View" previews just by hovering it over the screen.
The Note II also brought new features like split-screen multitasking. This meant you could use two apps at the same time on the same screen!
Galaxy Note 3
The Galaxy Note 3 came out in 2013. It had a more fancy design with a back that looked like leather. The screen was even bigger at 5.7 inches and had a super clear 1080p display. It could even record videos in 4K resolution!
This phone was special because it was the only Galaxy Note to have sensors for temperature and humidity. It also let you use "Air View" with both the stylus and your fingers.
Galaxy Note 3 Neo
In 2014, Samsung released a slightly simpler version called the Galaxy Note 3 Neo. It still had the S-Pen stylus and a 5.5-inch screen. It was a more affordable option for people who wanted a Note phone.
Galaxy Note 4
The Galaxy Note 4 was launched in 2014. It had a new design with a metal frame and a leather-like back. The 5.7-inch screen was even sharper with QHD resolution. The camera got better with optical image stabilization, which helps keep photos from being blurry.
The S-Pen was also improved, making it even more precise. The Note 4 was the last Samsung flagship phone where you could easily change the battery yourself.
Galaxy Note Edge
Alongside the Note 4, Samsung also released the Galaxy Note Edge. This phone was unique because its screen curved around the right side! This curved part could show extra information, like news updates or app shortcuts.
Galaxy Note 5
The Galaxy Note 5 was announced in 2015. It had a sleek new design with a metal frame and glass back, similar to the Galaxy S6. It kept the large 5.7-inch screen.
However, unlike older Note models, you couldn't change the battery or add more storage with a memory card. A cool new feature was "Screen off memo," which let you write notes instantly when you took out the stylus, even if the screen was off.
Galaxy Note 7
The Galaxy Note 7 came out in 2016. It was the first Note phone to have a USB-C port and be water-resistant, even the stylus! The screen was curved on both sides, and the stylus was even more sensitive.
Sadly, the Galaxy Note 7 had a problem with its battery that caused some phones to get too hot and be unsafe. Because of this, Samsung stopped selling it and recalled almost all of them in October 2016.
Galaxy Note Fan Edition
After the Note 7 recall, Samsung released the Note Fan Edition (FE) in 2017. This was a refurbished Note 7 with a smaller, safer battery. It also came with newer software and the Bixby virtual assistant.
Galaxy Note 8
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was released in 2017. It had a big 6.3-inch "Infinity Display" that went almost to the edges of the phone. It also had a new dual-lens camera system, which was great for taking photos with a blurred background effect.
This phone was also water and dust resistant and included an iris scanner for unlocking your phone with your eyes.
Galaxy Note 9
The Galaxy Note 9 was announced in 2018. It was an improved version of the Note 8. The biggest new feature was that the S-Pen stylus now had Bluetooth! This meant you could use it as a remote control for your camera, YouTube videos, or presentations.
The Note 9 also had a larger battery and more storage options. Its camera was similar to the Galaxy S9 Plus, taking great photos even in low light.
Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+
In 2019, Samsung introduced two versions: the Galaxy Note 10 and the Note 10+. This was the first time they offered a "Plus" model for the Note series. The Note 10 had a 6.3-inch screen, while the Note 10+ had an even larger 6.8-inch screen.
Both phones had in-display fingerprint scanners and a feature called Wireless PowerShare. This let you wirelessly charge other compatible devices just by placing them on the back of your Note phone! They also removed the headphone jack.
Galaxy Note 10 Lite
In 2020, Samsung released the Note 10 Lite. This phone brought back some features that were missing from the flagship Notes, like a flat screen and a headphone jack. It was designed to be a more affordable Note option.
Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra
The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra were announced in 2020. The Note 20 Ultra was the more advanced model, with a huge 6.9-inch display and a super smooth 120 Hz refresh rate. It also had expandable storage.
The Note 20 had slightly fewer features to make it more affordable. Both phones had powerful triple camera setups. These were the last phones launched under the main Note series.
Galaxy Note Tablets
The Galaxy Note series also included some tablets that came with the S-Pen stylus.
Galaxy Note 8.0
This was an 8-inch Android tablet released in 2013. It was part of the second generation of Note tablets.
Galaxy Note 10.1
Announced in 2012, this tablet had a 10.1-inch screen and a quad-core processor. It also supported the Samsung S-Pen stylus, just like the Note phones.
Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition
This updated version of the 10.1-inch tablet came out in 2013. It had an improved S-Pen and a sharper screen.
Galaxy Note Pro 12.2
In 2014, Samsung released the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2, a much larger tablet with a 12.2-inch display. It also came with the S-Pen stylus, making it great for drawing and taking notes on a bigger screen.
Other Devices with S-Pen
Even after the main Note series ended, Samsung started adding S-Pen support to other devices.
Galaxy Tab
Some Samsung Galaxy Tab tablets, like certain models of the Tab A and Tab S series, now come with or support the S-Pen stylus.
Chromebook
Some Samsung Chromebooks, which are laptops that run on Google's Chrome OS, also feature S-Pen support.
Galaxy Book
Samsung Galaxy Book devices are laptops and 2-in-1 computers that also offer S-Pen functionality for creative and productive tasks.
Newer Phones with S-Pen Features
After the Galaxy Note series stopped, Samsung added the S-Pen to some of their other flagship phones.
Galaxy S21 Ultra
The Galaxy S21 Ultra, released in 2021, was the first phone in the Galaxy S series to support the S-Pen. You had to buy the pen separately, and it had some limited features compared to the Note phones.
Galaxy Z Fold 3
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is a foldable phone that also supports the S-Pen. This lets you use the pen on its large, unfolding screen.
Galaxy S22 Ultra
Released in 2022, the Galaxy S22 Ultra brought back the built-in S-Pen, just like the original Note series. It has very similar features to the old Note phones, with a super fast pen response time.
Galaxy Z Fold 4
The Galaxy Z Fold 4, another foldable phone, also supports the S-Pen, continuing the trend of bringing Note features to other Samsung devices.
Galaxy S23 Ultra
The Galaxy S23 Ultra, released in 2023, also includes a built-in S-Pen, just like the S22 Ultra. It keeps the fast pen response and all the familiar S-Pen features.
