Samuel Bruce Rudall (born March 7, 1859, died January 3, 1945) was an important person in South Australia. He was a lawyer, which means he helped people with legal matters. He was also a politician, meaning he helped make decisions for the state.

Samuel Rudall's Life and Work

Early Life and Education

Samuel Bruce Rudall was born in 1859. His father, John Rudall, was the first town clerk of Gawler and a lawyer there. Samuel went to school in Gawler and then to St. Peter's College. He studied law, learning from his father and other lawyers.

Becoming a Lawyer and Town Clerk

In 1881, Samuel took over his father's law business. He also became the town clerk of Gawler, a job he kept for 32 years! This meant he was in charge of many important things for the town.

Time in Politics

Samuel was elected to the House of Assembly in November 1906. This is like being a member of parliament for South Australia. He represented the area called Barossa for the Liberal Party. He served in this role until March 1915. For the last three years, he was the Chairman of Committees, helping to lead discussions and decisions.

Community Involvement

Samuel was also involved in many other things in his community. For many years, he was a director at James Martin & Co., Ltd., a company in Gawler that owned the Phoenix Foundry. He was the president of the Gawler Institute for a long time. In 1899, he was the president of the Gawler Literary Society. Later, he became the first president of the Gawler Union Parliament. He was also a keen Freemason, which is a social and charitable organization.

Samuel Rudall's Family Life

Samuel Rudall married Margaret McNeil in 1884. They had two children:

  • Reginald John Rudall (born 1885, died 1955), who also became a politician in South Australia.
  • Maude Bryce Rudall.

After Margaret passed away in 1923, Samuel married Alice Maria Warren later that same year. Alice was the daughter of H. E. Downer. They moved to a country home called "Nara" in Stirling, where Samuel lived until he passed away in 1945 after a long illness.
