Samuel Matthew Rocke (born 7 September 1874, died 3 June 1963) was an Australian politician. He served as an independent member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia. This is like the state parliament, where laws are made. He represented the area called South Fremantle from 1917 to 1921.

Samuel Rocke was an interesting person who worked in different jobs before becoming a politician. He helped make decisions for the people of Western Australia.
Early Life and Moving West
Samuel Rocke was born on 7 September 1874, in a place called the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. His parents were Sarah and Andrew Rocke.
When he was about 21 years old, in 1895, Samuel moved to Western Australia. He settled in a city called Fremantle.
Working Life Before Parliament
In Fremantle, Samuel Rocke started his career as a merchant, selling produce like fruits and vegetables. Later, he began working for the government, which is called the public service.
In 1910, he got a job as an assistant storekeeper at Fremantle Prison. This was a big prison in Western Australia.
Becoming a Politician
Samuel Rocke decided to enter politics in 1917. He ran in the 1917 Western Australian state election. He stood as an "Independent Labor" candidate for the area of South Fremantle.
He won the election by a very small number of votes, just six votes more than the person who was already in the job, Harry Bolton. This shows how every vote counts!
Time in Parliament
Samuel Rocke served one term in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. A "term" means the period of time he was elected for. He worked as a representative for South Fremantle from 1917 to 1921.
When the next election came in 1921, he tried to get re-elected. However, he lost by a lot of votes this time. He only received about 9 percent of the first votes.
After Politics
After leaving politics in 1921, Samuel Rocke moved to New South Wales, another state in Australia. There, he worked for a company called Sanitarium Australia. This company makes healthy food products.
Samuel Rocke passed away in June 1963, in a town called Kurri Kurri. He was 88 years old.
