Samuel Usque's most important book is called Consolação às Tribulações de Israel. This means "Consolation for the Troubles of Israel." He published it in Ferrara in 1553. The book aimed to comfort Jewish people who were facing hard times and persecution. It told stories and offered hope during a period when many Jewish communities were suffering. Samuel Usque was one of the few writers of his time who used ideas from another famous Jewish author, Solomon ibn Verga.

"Mother of Israel"

Samuel Usque is also famous for giving the Greek city of Thessaloniki a special nickname. He called it the "Mother of Israel." This nickname, also known as Madre de Israel in Judaeo-Spanish, showed how important Thessaloniki was to Jewish people. The city had a very large and active Jewish community for many centuries.
