San Agustín is a town in the southern part of Colombia, in a region called the Huila Department. It's about 227 kilometers (141 miles) from Neiva, the capital city of Huila. About 34,000 people live there.
The first village was started in 1752 by Alejo Astudillo, but it was later destroyed. The town we know today was founded in 1790 by Lucas de Herazo y Mendigaña. The weather is usually warm, with an average temperature of 18°C (64°F) all year.

San Agustín Archaeological Park
The area around San Agustín is very famous for its ancient sites. These places have amazing stone statues and tombs made by an old culture called the San Agustin culture. These sites are part of the San Agustín Archaeological Park.
This park is very important because it brings many tourists to the area. Both Colombians and people from other countries love to visit. Because of its special history, the park was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. This means it's a place that is important to the whole world.
