San Antonio de Oriente is a small town in Honduras. It is a municipality located in the Francisco Morazán area. In 2015, about 15,299 people lived there.
This town is high up in the mountains. It is about 28 kilometers (17 miles) away from Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras. The Santa Iné River flows through the municipality from south to north.

History of San Antonio de Oriente
The first people settled in this area around 1660. They started a village called Mineral de San Antonio. This old village was about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) from where the town is today. Now, that old village is known as San Antonio Yusguare.
There is another place nearby called San Antonio Ocidente. It is about one kilometer (0.6 miles) west of the current San Antonio de Oriente.

Florencio Xatruch
Florencio Xatruch (1811 - 1893) was born in this town. He became a General and was a very important leader in Honduran history. In 1856, he led the Honduran army. They went to Nicaragua to fight against William Walker. Walker was an American who tried to take control of Central American countries. General Xatruch played a key role in stopping him.
