San Bartolomé de Pinares is a small town, also called a municipality, in Spain. It is located in the province of Ávila, which is part of the Castile and León region. In 2018, about 553 people lived there. This town is only 20 kilometers (about 12 miles) from the city of Ávila. For a long time, San Bartolomé de Pinares has been important for its livestock, meaning farm animals.

The town is named after St. Bartholomew, a famous saint. You can find a beautiful church there called the Iglesia de San Bartolomé Apóstol. It is built in a special style called Herrerian. A well-known teacher and journalist, Juan Grande Martín, was born in San Bartolomé de Pinares on January 12, 1914. He passed away on November 13, 1981.

Every year, on January 16, the town celebrates a special event called the Luminarias festival. This happens on the evening before the festival of Saint Anthony. People say this tradition has been going on for five centuries, which is 500 years!

The festival started as a way to keep the horses in the village healthy. It was a ritual purification, a special ceremony to make things clean and pure. During the festival, large Bonfires are lit in the main streets. Horses then jump through the flames. The smoke from the fires is believed to protect the animals from sickness and disease.
