San Cosme y San Damián, Burgos facts for kids
The Church of San Cosme and San Damián is a beautiful old church in Burgos, Spain. It sits right by the Arlanzón River. This church was built a long time ago, in the 1500s. It mixes two cool building styles: Late Gothic and Renaissance. Many important artists from that time were buried here.
What Makes It Special?
The church has some really interesting parts. One of these is the porch on its north side.
The North Porch
A famous designer named Juan de Vallejo created this porch in 1552. It looks like a grand arch, similar to a "triumphal arch" that celebrates victories. This arch has cool round decorations called medallions. These medallions show pictures of John the Baptist and John the Evangelist. The porch also has fancy columns with grooves, which are called fluted columns.
The Big Tower
The church also has a very tall and strong tower. This tower was added later, in 1621. It was designed by Gabriel de Cotero. The tower is built in a style called Classicist Baroque. This style often uses grand, classic shapes and designs.
