Exploring San Fernando's Geography
San Fernando is in the northern part of Gran Buenos Aires. It has two very different parts. One part is the mainland, which is busy with many people, factories, shops, and services. The other part is a group of islands in the Paraná Delta. These islands cover about 950 km2 (370 sq mi).
Because of its many waterways and its connection to the delta, San Fernando is known as the "nautical capital" of Argentina. This means it's a very important place for boating and water activities.
The city shares borders with San Isidro and Tigre. The mainland area includes the towns of Virreyes, San Fernando itself, and Victoria. The rest of San Fernando's area includes the second and third sections of the Paraná Delta Islands.
