San Ignacio is a town and a municipality in El Salvador. It is a special place located in the Chalatenango Department. The town is about 87 kilometers (54 miles) from San Salvador, the capital city. It is also very close to the border with Honduras, only 8 kilometers (5 miles) away.

The name San Ignacio honors Ignatius of Loyola, a famous historical figure. The town celebrates its main festivals from July 23 to July 31 each year.

San Ignacio's Geography

San Ignacio is known for its beautiful natural features. It has a wide range of altitudes, from 1,010 meters (3,314 feet) to 2,750 meters (9,022 feet) above sea level. This means it has both lower valleys and very high mountains.
