The San Isidro Cathedral is a famous church located in the city of San Isidro, in the Buenos Aires area of Argentina. You can find it on Del Libertador Avenue, right across from Plaza Mitre. This area is known as San Isidro's historic quarter.

History of the Cathedral

This impressive cathedral was built where a smaller chapel once stood. That first chapel was opened way back in 1706 by the city's founder, Captain Domingo de Acassuso. The current cathedral was designed by two talented French architects, Dunant and Paquin. It officially opened its doors on July 14, 1898.

Cathedral's Amazing Design

The San Isidro Cathedral is built in a style called neogothic. This means it looks like old European churches with tall spires and pointed arches. It stands very tall, reaching about 68 meters (223 feet) into the sky!

The church's base is shaped like a Latin cross, which is a common design for cathedrals. Its walls are made from strong stone and bricks. Inside, you'll find beautiful stained glass windows that fill the church with colorful light. The cathedral was carefully restored, with the work finished in 2007, making sure it stays beautiful for many years.

San Isidro Festival Day

Every year, on May 15, people celebrate the festival of Isidore the Labourer. This is a special day for the community in San Isidro.
