The San Juan de Rabanera is an old church in Soria, Spain. It was built in a style called Romanesque. This means it has thick walls and round arches. It is a Roman Catholic church. In 1929, it was named a special cultural treasure of Spain. This helps protect it for the future.
A Look at Its History and Design
Building the San Juan de Rabanera church started a long time ago, in the 1100s. Over the years, the church has been updated and repaired. New small rooms, called chapels, were also added.
One of the most interesting parts is the main entrance, called the portal. It has many detailed carvings. This portal actually came from another church, the San Nicolás church, which was torn down. It was moved to San Juan de Rabanera in 1908.
The back part of the church, called the apse, is also special. It has flat pillars with lines on them. One of these pillars is right in the middle. It separates two windows that have rounded tops. Usually, churches like this only have one window in the apse.
Inside the Church
When you go inside the church, you will see some parts that look like the Gothic style. This style came after Romanesque and often has pointed arches. However, the rounded apse still has its original Romanesque window frames.
