The village has one long street. Houses are often spaced out. Most people living here are small farmers. They grow crops on the land between the street and the river. This land is a large flat area in the Limarí Valley.

Farming in San Julian

Farming is very important in San Julian. The main crop grown here is the artichoke. After artichokes, paprika-type peppers are also very important. Farmers also grow other vegetables. These include potatoes, onions, and tomatoes. They also grow fodder, which is food for animals.

Avocados are the most important fruit grown here. They are almost the only fruit that farmers grow to sell.

In recent years, some big farming companies have invested in the land around the village. This land used to be empty because it was hard to water. Now, these companies are using new ways to irrigate. For example, Concha y Toro has planted many vineyards to grow grapes. Another company, Contador Frutos, has planted many almond trees. A third company is planting even more avocado trees. They are using the hillsides for these new trees.

Many people in San Julian work in agriculture. This is especially true for younger people. A lot of them work for these big farming companies.
