The St. Louis the King Cathedral (also known as Spanish: Catedral Metropolitana de San Luis Rey) is a very important Catholic church. It is the main church for the Catholic community in San Luis Potosí in Mexico. You can find it in the old part of the city, right next to the main square.
This amazing building was started in 1670 and finished in 1730. It became a cathedral in 1854. The church is named after St. Louis King of France.
What Makes It Special?
The front of the cathedral, called the façade, is very fancy. It has a special style called Baroque. This design looks like a big, detailed screen. It even has three main parts, similar to the famous Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City.
Inside, the main altar is a huge structure. It is made of stone and has two levels. On the first level, you can see a statue of St. Louis King of France. The second level holds a beautiful image of Our Lady of the Expectation.
