San Miguel is a special area called a district in Costa Rica. It is part of the Cañas canton, which is like a county. San Miguel is located in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica.

The History of San Miguel
San Miguel was officially created on November 30, 1995. It became its own district through a special government decision. Before that, it was part of the Cañas area.
Geography and Size
San Miguel covers an area of about 120.86 square kilometers. That's about 46.66 square miles. The district is located at an elevation of 75 meters above sea level. This means it's about 246 feet higher than the ocean.
Villages in San Miguel
The main village and administrative center of the district is also called San Miguel. This is where most of the district's activities are centered.
Besides the main village, there are several other smaller villages within the district. These include Coco, Gotera, Güis, Higuerón, Higuerón Viejo, and San Juan.
