San Pablo Guelatao is a small town and the main part of the Municipality of Guelatao de Juárez. It is located in the beautiful state of Oaxaca, Mexico. People often just call it Guelatao.
This special place is found in the Ixtlán District, which is part of the Sierra Norte de Oaxaca region. Guelatao is nestled in the foothills of the Sierra de Juárez mountains. These mountains are part of a bigger system called the Sierra Madre de Oaxaca. It is about 55 kilometers north of the city of Oaxaca.

The Town of Guelatao
Guelatao is famous for being the birthplace of President Benito Juárez. His parents were Zapotec farmers. Benito Juárez was very important because he was the first indigenous president of Mexico.
When he was born, Guelatao was a tiny village with fewer than 100 people. It was part of the larger town of Ixtlán. Juárez was baptized in the church at Ixtlán, which is now called Ixtlán de Juárez in his honor. Guelatao became its own independent municipality in 1824, after Mexico became free from Spain.
Today, the town has a small museum dedicated to Benito Juárez. It tells the story of his life and his important work for Mexico.
Local Radio Station
Guelatao is also home to XEGLO. This is a special radio station run by the government. It broadcasts in different indigenous languages like Zapotec, Mixe, and Chinantec. It helps keep these languages and cultures alive.
People of Guelatao
In 2005, San Pablo Guelatao had about 476 people living in 111 homes. Most of the people living here are indigenous Zapotec people. The area is mostly rural, meaning it has a lot of countryside.
The Municipality of Guelatao de Juárez
The Municipality of Guelatao de Juárez is named after President Benito Juárez. It includes the town of San Pablo Guelatao and other smaller communities. These communities are Llano de la Cheta and Río Grande. The municipality is part of the Ixtlán District. San Pablo Guelatao is the main town and the center of the municipality's government.
