San Pablo Lytton Casino facts for kids
The Casino San Pablo is a special place in San Pablo, California, run by the Lytton Band of Pomo Indians, a Native American tribe. It's a fun place where adults can play games, and it's built on land that belongs to the tribe. It's right next to where the Doctors Medical Center used to be.
History of Casino San Pablo
The land where the casino now stands used to be a trailer park and a bowling alley called Lucky Lanes. In 1994, it was changed into a parking lot and a card club. Later, in 2002, the club was allowed to offer some types of gambling. The casino shares some of its money with the city of San Pablo, which helps the city's economy.
Casino Growth and Changes
In 2005, the casino became a bigger "full-fledged" casino. This meant it could have more types of games, like slot machines and video bingo. By 2016, some workers felt their pay was too low compared to other places. They asked for a pay raise to help them with their living costs. The casino makes a lot of money each year, which helps the tribe and the city.
Community and Future Plans
In 2018, the Lytton Band of Pomo Indians, who own the casino, gave $1 million to help people affected by the Camp Fire. This showed their support for the community.
In 2019, the casino bought the land where the old hospital used to be. They removed the hospital building to create 1,000 more parking spaces. This helps people visiting the casino and also helps with parking in the neighborhoods nearby. The city of San Pablo gets more than half of its money from the casino, so its success is very important for the city.
Also in 2019, the tribe, with help from Congressman Jared Huffman, started working on a plan for new land near Windsor, California. This new land would be a "homeland" for the tribe and would not be used for gambling. The plans include building homes, a hotel, and a winery on this large piece of land. This project is called the Lytton Rancheria Homelands Act.
In a fun moment in 2019, a woman from Daly City, California won a very large prize of almost $781,000 from a slot machine at the casino!
