San Sebastián Coatán is a special area in Guatemala. It's like a local government area, called a municipality, found in the Huehuetenango part of the country. This part of Guatemala is called a department.
About San Sebastián Coatán
This area covers about 560 square kilometers. It sits high up, about 2,350 meters above sea level, which means it has a cooler climate. Around 18,022 people live here. They speak two main languages: Spanish and Chuj.
San Sebastián Coatán shares its borders with several other places:
- To the north: San Mateo Ixtatán and Nentón
- To the east: San Rafael la Independencia and Santa Eulalia
- To the south: San Miguel Acatán
- To the west: Nentón
Inside this municipality, there's an old place called Moja'. It's an archaeological site, which means it has ancient ruins or artifacts.
Local Celebrations
The town has a big yearly fair from January 17th to 20th. This fair honors their special saint, Saint Sebastian. There's also a smaller fair on October 02 to celebrate Saint Francis of Assisi.
Radio Station
Local Evangelical Protestants run a radio station here. It's known as Radio Coatán, or sometimes Radio Cultural Coatán. This station broadcasts on shortwave radio. Sometimes, people in North America and Europe can even hear its programs!
