Sand Ridge is a ghost town located in Houston County, Texas, in the United States. A ghost town is a place where most or all people have moved away, leaving it mostly empty.
The Story of Sand Ridge
Nobody knows exactly when Sand Ridge was first settled. People believe it was before the year 1900. By the mid-1930s, Sand Ridge had several houses spread out and a few businesses.
This situation stayed mostly the same into the mid-1960s. However, many people started to leave the area after World War II ended. By 1990, Sand Ridge had become a "dispersed community." This means the few remaining homes were very far apart.
Where is Sand Ridge?
The community of Sand Ridge was located on Texas State Highway 21. It was about 20 miles (32 km) southwest of a town called Crockett. This area is in the southwestern part of Houston County.
Schools in Sand Ridge
In the mid-1930s, Sand Ridge had its very own school. Today, any children who live in the area attend schools within the Lovelady ISD. An Independent School District (ISD) is a special local government area that runs public schools.
