Sandcastle is a fun water park located in West Homestead. This town is a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The park is built on a large piece of land, about 67 acres, right next to the Monongahela River.

Sandcastle is owned by a company called Parques Reunidos. This company also owns other popular parks like Kennywood, Idlewild Park, and Lake Compounce. Sandcastle has many exciting attractions, including fourteen water slides, several swimming pools, and other fun things to do.

History of Sandcastle

The area where Sandcastle is today was once a railroad yard. It belonged to a company called U.S. Steel. In 1988, Kennywood Entertainment bought this land. They started building the water park right away. Sandcastle officially opened its doors to visitors in July 1989.

Sandcastle has a total of 14 thrilling water slides. This includes three super-fast speed slides! Other popular slides are the Blue Tooba Looba, Thunder Run, Tubers Tower, and Cliffhangers. The Blue Tooba Looba replaced an older slide called "The Bermuda Triangle." That was the only slide ever removed from the park.

Besides the slides, Sandcastle has other cool attractions. You can relax on the "lazy river," which is a gentle ride on a tube. There's also a big swimming pool and Mon-Tsunami, a large wave pool that creates ocean-like waves. For younger kids, there's Wet Willies. This area has water slides and attractions made just for children.

Where to Find Sandcastle

The water park is located in West Homestead, which is a town near Pittsburgh. It's just down the road from the Waterfront. The Waterfront is a big shopping area with stores, restaurants, and movie theaters.

It's easy to get to Sandcastle using Interstate 376. There is also a PAT Transit bus line, the 59 Mon Valley. This bus runs near the park, but it does not go directly to the entrance.
