The Sandyford Henderson Memorial Church is a Parish church in Glasgow, Scotland. It belongs to the Church of Scotland. This church serves the areas of Finnieston, Kelvinhaugh, and Yorkhill.
History of Sandyford Henderson Church
This church was built between 1854 and 1856. It was designed in a style called Neo-Gothic. This means it looked like old Gothic churches from the Middle Ages. The first designs were by John Thomas Emmett, but John Honeyman finished the building.
At first, it was a "chapel of ease" for the Barony Church. This meant it was a smaller church built to help people who lived far from the main church. In 1864, it became its own parish church, called Sandyford Parish Church. Later, in 1938, it joined with another church, Henderson Memorial. This is how it got its current name, Sandyford Henderson Memorial Church.
Art and Features of the Church
The church has many beautiful stained glass windows. These windows show patterns of shapes and flowers. They were made by Ballantine & Allan in 1857. The three large windows at the west side of the church have pictures in them. These were made by William Wailes between 1859 and 1860. The stained glass windows were cleaned and fixed between 2008 and 2009.
In 1922, a special memorial was put in the church. It remembers the 20 men from the church's area who died in World War I. The outside stone walls of the church were repaired in 2000. The inside of the church was also updated in 2004.
