Sanford Allen facts for kids
Sanford Allen, born in 1939, is a famous American classical violinist. He started playing the violin at a young age. When he was just 10, he began studying music at the well-known Juilliard School of Music. Later, he continued his studies at the Mannes School of Music.
Sanford Allen made history in the music world. In 1959, he became the first African-American regular member of the Lewisohn Stadium Concerts Orchestra. Then, in 1962, he joined the New York Philharmonic. This made him the first full-time African-American violinist in that famous orchestra. He stayed with the Philharmonic until 1977.
After leaving the orchestra, Allen became a solo musician. He also taught music and advised on different art projects. He even helped record music for movies. Since 1969, Sanford Allen has been married to Madhur Jaffrey. She is a well-known actress, writer, and television personality from India.
