Sannie Louise Overly (born July 2, 1966) is an American lawyer, engineer, and politician. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Overly served in the Kentucky House of Representatives, which is part of Kentucky's state government. She represented the 72nd House district. From 2013 to 2017, she was the House Majority Caucus Chair. This made her the first woman to hold a leadership role in the Kentucky House. In 2015, she was a candidate for lieutenant governor of Kentucky. She was also chosen to lead the Kentucky Democratic Party in 2016.

Early Life and Education
Sannie Overly was born in Millersburg, Kentucky. She went to Bourbon County High School. In 1989, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Kentucky College of Engineering. Later, in 1993, she received her law degree (Juris Doctor) from the University of Louisville School of Law.
Political Career and Achievements
Before entering politics, Overly was involved in her local community. She was the president of the Bourbon County Bar Association. She also led the Paris–Bourbon County Historic Society. She used her engineering skills working for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
Joining the Kentucky House
Overly decided to run for the Kentucky House of Representatives. She won a special election on January 8, 2008. She took her oath of office just three days later. In 2009, the Speaker of the Kentucky House, Greg Stumbo, gave her an important job. He asked her to lead the Budget Review Subcommittee. This group looks after the state's roads budget. She was the first woman ever to lead this budget group.
A Leader in the House
In 2013, her fellow Democratic House members chose her for a new role. They elected her as their caucus chair. This was a very important step. It made her the first woman to hold a leadership position in the Kentucky House. She was the last Democrat to hold this office. This was because the Republican Party gained the majority in 2017.
Running for Lieutenant Governor
In 2015, Sannie Overly ran for lieutenant governor of Kentucky. She ran with Jack Conway as part of their team. They were candidates in the 2015 Kentucky gubernatorial election. However, they did not win the election. Matt Bevin and Jenean Hampton won instead.
Leading the Democratic Party
In 2016, Overly was elected to be the chair of the Kentucky Democratic Party. This meant she was in charge of the Democratic Party in Kentucky. She decided not to run for reelection to the Kentucky House in 2018.
Personal Life
Sannie Overly lives in Paris, Kentucky, with her husband, Michael Kalinyak. They have two children. She grew up on a farm in Millersburg, Kentucky. She is active in many local groups. These include local cooperatives and alumni associations. She also supports the Paris-Bourbon Co Library.
