Sant Quirze del Vallès is a town in Catalonia, Spain. It is part of the Vallès Occidental area, which is in the Province of Barcelona. Imagine a town located about 12 miles (20 kilometers) away from the big city of Barcelona!
Around 20,000 people live in Sant Quirze. It's a residential town, meaning many families call it home. The town has grown a lot since the late 1990s. Sant Quirze shares its borders with other important towns like Sabadell, Rubí, Terrassa, and Sant Cugat. This whole area is a major industrial zone, which means it's very important for businesses and jobs in Catalonia and Spain.
Sant Quirze del Vallès is also located near the beautiful Serra dels Galliners mountain range. It has easy access to major highways like the C58, which connects to Barcelona and Manresa. The AP7 highway also links it to cities like Girona, Tarragona, and Lleida.
A Look at Sant Quirze's Past
Sant Quirze became its own official town in 1848. Before that, it was part of Terrassa. In the 13th century, it was known as Sant Quirze de Terrassa. Later, in the 15th century, it was called Sant Quirze de Galliners, named after the nearby mountain range.
Over the years, the town's name changed a few times. In 1857, it was called San Quirico de Tarrasa in Spanish. After a war, it went back to a Spanish name. Finally, in 1976, the name changed to Sant Quirze del Vallès, which became official in 1983.
