Finding Santa's Village
Santa Claus Village is about 8 kilometers (5 miles) northeast of Rovaniemi. It's also super close to the Rovaniemi Airport, only about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) away. This makes it easy for visitors to fly in and start their adventure!
Long ago, people believed Santa Claus lived on a mountain called Korvatunturi. But in 1985, Rovaniemi was officially named Santa Claus's hometown. This made the village the perfect spot for Santa's main office.
Cool Things to See and Do
There are many exciting attractions at Santa Claus Village. You can explore different parts of the park and learn new things.
Crossing the Arctic Circle

The Arctic Circle is an imaginary line around the Earth. It marks the start of the Arctic region. A white line is painted across Santa Claus Village to show where the Arctic Circle was in 1865. When you step over this line, you officially enter the Arctic! Many visitors love to take photos here. The real Arctic Circle is actually a bit further north, but this spot is still a lot of fun.
Santa's Snowmobile Museum
At Santa's House of Snowmobiles, you can learn all about snowmobiles. This museum shows how these cool vehicles have changed over time. It also teaches you how snowmobiles are used in the snowy Arctic areas.
Meeting Santa Claus
Santa Claus's Office is inside the main building of the village. This is where you can meet Santa Claus himself! You can chat with him and even take a photo. Remember, Santa has "office hours," so he might not always be there, even when the village is open.
Seeing the Northern Lights
The Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, are an amazing natural light show. You can often see them in Lapland from mid-August until early April. They appear on about 150 nights each year! Great places to watch them include the Arctic Garden or the top of Ounasvaara fell.
The Northern Lights happen when tiny, electrically charged particles from the sun hit Earth's atmosphere. Our planet's magnetic field guides these particles. When they crash into air molecules, they create colorful light. Green is the most common color, but you might also see red, pink, violet, yellow, or even blue!
Awards and Recognition
The Santa Claus Park, which is connected to the Santa Claus Village, has won awards. In 2007, Topworld International named it the second-best Travel Adventure in Finland. It has kept this high ranking since 2008, after travelers voted for their favorite adventures.
