Mining in Santa Eulalia
Mining began in the Santa Eulalia area in the early 1700s. At first, the mines mostly produced silver. Silver is a valuable metal often used for jewelry and coins.
More recently, the mines have also produced zinc and lead. Zinc is used in batteries and to protect other metals. Lead is used in many things, but its use has decreased because it can be harmful.
Since the 1990s, mining production in Santa Eulalia has stopped and started again many times. This means it has been "intermittent."
