Santa Mónica is a small town located in the southern part of Uruguay. It is part of the San José Department. In 2004, about 2,561 people lived there.
Santa Mónica is connected to Montevideo, the capital city of Uruguay, by a major road called Route 1. Another place called Playa Pascual is located nearby, just to its southwest.
In 2006, Santa Mónica and Playa Pascual, along with other nearby communities, became part of a larger city known as Ciudad del Plata. This means they are now all grouped together under one city name.
