Geography: Where is Ciudad del Plata?
Ciudad del Plata is located in a special spot. It's bordered by the Santa Lucía River to the east and north. To the south, it meets the Río de la Plata, which is a very wide river mouth.
The city stretches along Route 1, a main highway. It's part of a larger urban area that includes Montevideo. This means many people live and work in both places. Ciudad del Plata also has factories and businesses, making it an important industrial area. You can also find the Jardines de Mater Terra here, which is a private cemetery that opened in 1993.
History: How the City Grew
The area where Ciudad del Plata is now used to be known as Rincón de la Bolsa. It wasn't one big city back then. Instead, it was made up of several smaller, separate communities.
Over time, as the capital city of Montevideo grew westward, these smaller areas started to connect. They eventually joined together to form one larger populated center.
On October 25, 2006, something important happened. A special law officially gave the area the status of a "city." It was named "Ciudad del Plata." This new city brought together several neighborhoods, including Delta del Tigre y Villas, Playa Pascual, Parque Postel, Monte Grande, and Santa Monica.
Population: How Many People Live Here?
Ciudad del Plata has been growing steadily. In 2006, about 26,000 people lived there. By the 2011 census, the population had grown to 31,145 people.
