Santa and the Fairy Snow Queen is a short fantasy film from 1951. It was directed by Sid Davis. This movie tells a magical story about Santa Claus and a special Snow Queen.

The Story of the Film

The film begins with a brownie named Snoopy (played by Rochelle Stanton). She works for Santa Claus (played by Edmund Penney). Snoopy tells us that her job is to watch over children. She checks if they are behaving well. She also makes sure that the toys Santa gives them are taken care of.

If toys are broken or forgotten, Snoopy takes them away. She brings them to the Land of Lost and Forgotten Toys. Snoopy then shares a special story. Santa asked her to tell children how the Fairy Snow Queen brought toys to life. This story helps kids learn to respect their gifts.

The Fairy Snow Queen's Visit

Snoopy's story starts on a Christmas Eve, long ago. Santa and his brownies had just finished making all the toys. Santa invited the Fairy Snow Queen (played by Margot von Lou) to visit. He wanted to share some sugar cookies with her.

The Fairy Snow Queen arrived, but Santa was fast asleep. He was very tired from all his hard work. At his feet, she saw many toys ready for delivery. These included a rag doll, a musical doll, a jack-in-the-box, a toy soldier, a baby doll, a peasant doll, and a candy lion.

Toys Come to Life

The Fairy Snow Queen felt a bit ignored. So, she decided to play a trick on Santa. She used her magic to bring all the toys to life! The toys took their first steps. The queen even danced with the rag doll.

Suddenly, Santa woke up. The toys showed him they could sing. Santa enjoyed their music. But he asked the Fairy Snow Queen to turn them back into regular toys. The queen said it was all just fun.

The toy soldier and the baby doll then showed off a marching routine. After that, the playful Jack-in-the-Box jumped out. He scared the other toys! The toy soldier helped him get back into his box.

A Magical Problem

The Fairy Snow Queen used her magic to calm everyone down. Santa asked her again to change the toys back. He worried they might fall in love or break themselves.

Then, the queen revealed a problem. Because she had been careless with her magic, her powers were gone! She could only change the toys back if they wanted to return to normal. But the toys did not want to change back.

Santa told the toys that if they stayed alive, he would have no gifts for the children. The Fairy Snow Queen then offered a solution. The toys would come to life for one hour every night, at midnight. The toys agreed to this plan.

Santa then made Snoopy the caretaker of all the toys. Before they changed back, the musical doll and the toy soldier shared a secret. They had fallen in love! To remember her, the soldier gave the doll his golden medal. Santa decided that all musical dolls would wear golden medals. This would remind everyone of their love story.

Finally, the queen turned the toys back to normal. Santa and Snoopy then loaded the toys onto his sleigh.

Music in the Film

Some of the music in this short film is very famous. It came from two well-known ballets: The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty. Both of these were composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
