Santiago Gallo's Work in Sugar and Politics
Santiago Gallo grew up in San Miguel de Tucumán. His family was well-known in the area. Unlike his brother, Santiago focused his energy on the sugar industry. He managed two large sugar factories, also called mills, in Tucumán. These mills were named Luján and El Colmenar. He also ran another mill in Santiago del Estero, called the Contreras mill. These factories turned sugar cane into sugar.
Why Santiago Gallo Resigned as Governor
Santiago Gallo also served as a governor. A governor is like a leader of a province or state. He had an agreement with another important political figure, Roca. Because of this agreement, Santiago Gallo decided to resign from his role as governor on September 3. When he resigned, another industrialist named Juan Posse took his place. Juan Posse was also part of the same political group.
