Santiago de Puringla is a municipality in the country of Honduras. It is part of the La Paz department. This area is located on a flat piece of land. The Puringla River flows along its border. To the south, you can find the Lepasale River.

History of Santiago de Puringla

The name "Puringla" has a special meaning. In the local native languages, it means 'abundance of pollen'. This suggests the area was rich in plant life.

Early Beginnings

The community was first known as Alguindia. In the year 1691, it was officially founded. At that time, it was given the name Puringla. Later, in 1886, it became recognized as a municipality. A municipality is like a local government area.

Name Change and Recent Events

On September 5, 1921, the name was changed to Santiago de Puringla. This change was made to celebrate 100 years of independence for Honduras. In April 2020, some parts of the Delicias area in the municipality had fires.
