Early Life and Education
Santino Rice studied at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. Before joining the TV show Project Runway, Rice worked with designers Pegah Anvarian and Tony Duquette.
Career Highlights
Competing on Project Runway
In 2005, Santino Rice was a contestant on the second season of the Bravo reality show Project Runway. He showed a mix of results during the competition. He won two challenges and was among the top three designers three other times. However, Rice also had some low scores, being in the bottom two for four challenges. He made it to the end of the season and was one of three finalists. These finalists got to show their designs at New York Fashion Week in New York City. Santino finished in third place.
After Project Runway
After his time on Project Runway, Rice was chosen to be a judge for the Miss Universe 2006 pageant. He also designed a dress for MTV VJ SuChin Pak for the 2006 MTV Movie Awards.
The next year, Rice appeared on an episode of America's Most Smartest Model. In this episode, he taught the contestants about fashion design. Around 2008, he was designing a new cigarette pack for Camel. He also worked on clothes for special private clients and started his own clothing company.
Reality TV Roles
More recently, Santino Rice has had important roles in other reality television shows. From 2009 to 2014, he was a judge on the Logo reality program RuPaul's Drag Race.
Rice also starred in the Lifetime show On the Road with Austin and Santino. He appeared alongside Austin Scarlett, another designer from Project Runway. The show started in 2010. It followed Rice and Scarlett as they traveled to different small towns across America. They designed special clothing for women who had upcoming important events.
