Santo Tomás is a town located in the Ensenada Municipality in Baja California, Mexico. It sits right on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. This area is mostly known for growing grapes and making wine. However, more and more people are visiting Santo Tomás as a fun place for tourists.
History of Santo Tomás
Santo Tomás started as a special place called the Misión Santo Tomás de Aquino. This was a mission built a long time ago. After the mission was no longer used, it became a military outpost for the Mexican border.
For a while, Santo Tomás was even the capital city of the entire territory of Baja California. The town you see today grew up just to the east of where the old mission used to be.
What Santo Tomás is Known For
Santo Tomás is a very important area for growing grapes and making wine. It has many different vineyards, which are farms where grapes are grown, and wineries, which are places where wine is made.
