History of Santo Tomás

Huge Wine Barrel
Santo Tomás is one of many places in Baja California where grapes are grown for wine.

Santo Tomás started as a special place called the Misión Santo Tomás de Aquino. This was a mission built a long time ago. After the mission was no longer used, it became a military outpost for the Mexican border.

For a while, Santo Tomás was even the capital city of the entire territory of Baja California. The town you see today grew up just to the east of where the old mission used to be.
